Markets

Every day in market day in Mallorca!

Every day is market day in Mallorca.  There is hardly a town of note that doesn’t stage a weekly market – although they are relatively rare in the better know tourist resorts; so you may have to travel a bit.  Some markets are better than others of course; but they are fairly similar in their layout and the type of goods on sale.  Most markets will sell fresh produce – fresh fruit and veg, hams, olives and nuts etc; leather goods – shoes, handbags, wallets; clothing; craft items aimed at tourists and range of other specialist items.

The market in Santa Ponsa is only a five minute walk from the hotel and takes place on a Saturday.

The Saturday market in Palma is regarded as one to avoid; most people prefering to visit the largest market on the island which is in Inca on Thursdays.

Other noteworthy markets are Andratx market on a Wednesday; the Sunday market at Santa Maria and the traditional agricultural market Sineu on Wednesdays – although it has become more of a clothes market in recent years

All markets start early, and it is advisable to arrive no later than 10.00am as most don’t continue much past 1.00pm
